Writing on Queer Time with Dusty Brandt Howard

As queer and trans people, we experience time differently. Many of us have lived multiple lives,
experienced "the self" in innumerable ways, and (depending on where you are in your journey) find ourselves beginning again and again. In this workshop, we will explore ways of queering time by writing non-linear narratives, asynchronous selves, fragmented timelines, time jumps, vignettes, and echoes. We will travel backward and forward through time, experimenting with rewriting the past and the future. While this workshop is open to all genres, we will mainly be using our own lived experiences as the ground from which we excavate material from.

Dusty is an artist, educator, and cultural narrator from Denver, Colorado. His writing is evocative,
emotive, and a little bit funny. He is a Book Project Fellow at Lighthouse Writers Workshop
currently writing a memoir on how to trust yourself as a masculine person in a patriarchal world.
Dusty holds a Master’s in Creative Writing from University of Westminster in London and is a
graduate of the Poetry Portfolio Program at the IPRC. His poems and essays have been published in The Lifted Brow, Lambda Literary, Foglifter, Cleaver Magazine, and DECENT. He has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, awarded Best of the Net by Sundress Publication and appeared on HBO. In his free time he can be found working out, intellectualizing his feelings, or spending quality time with his dogs and partner somewhere out west. You can read more of his work in the BOYS LOVE POETRY newsletter.
