Whitman Poling hails from Berkeley, California, where he began studying the cello with Eugene Sor at the Crowden School. He earned his Bachelor’s of Music from San Francisco State University studying with Dr. Alexander “Sandy” Walsh-Wilson, and completed his Master’s of Music with Professors David Requiro and Alice Yoo at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2021.
During the 2013-14 season, Whitman had the opportunity to perform in the Young People’s Symphony Orchestra in Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, and then on tour in the Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall in New York City, and in Sanders Theatre on the campus of Harvard.
Since then, he has travelled to a music festival in Tuscany, played in a masterclass for preeminent cellist Johannes Moser, and performed with harpsichordist and early music pedagogue Dr. Robert Hill, as well as in concert with other faculty members of the University of Colorado Boulder.
Whitman continues to perform chamber music recitals and attend orchestral auditions throughout the United States and in Canada.
